Re: RPresta,
A long slow fall of comfortable temperatures would be nice. I am also not nearly ready for winter. Though I do like layering clothing...

Re: FSI,
That's also my favorite thing: love the colors! I want to walk in the north-eastern forests, in the sea of orange and gold and red that I have seen from the air a time or two.

Re: Pat,
When I think of northwest autumns, I remember brilliant patches of vine maples among the dark evergreens... The smoke reduces sunlight, too, I will watch for the leaves to start turning.

I just began noticing a few brown leaves scattered around the ground in the neighborhood and realized what that means. I say, "No, no, not yet, please."

Every time autumn rolls around again, I always thank God for letting me live one more year to see the glories of fall one more time.

Yes it seems be in a rush to be autumn, so I will not use my hot water bottle even if tempted to do so.

I think autumn is beautiful - more so here in the Midwest than it was
in western Washington where most hillsides were covered with evergreens. But there's a wistfulness about it as you said. A friend of mine who worked in the Geography Dept. at SIU told me once that it's not the cool weather or the frost that changes the leaves, but a function of reduced sunlight - the leaves don't get enough of it to produce the chlorophyll that makes them green and supple.

I can feel autumn's imminent arrival as well. I love seeing the different colors of the leaves.
