- Go to No Duck Boat For Me
TAPS, you are extremely well traveled by all kinds of boats, dear lady...
It's such a tragedy, and one that may have very well been prevented. What ever where they thinking, taking a boat like that out? So sad.

Re: GoldenMean
It definitely has been quite some time ago since I am 80 now and we did all that stuff in my 30's and 40's. But I remember it like it was yesterday. The first time was the Yampa River of Colorado and I was hooked. After that we were always looking for something more daring.

When did you take a rubber raft down rapids? That would be a good story to tell us! I did that once myself, with father and brother, and it was completey awesome.

I agree that duck boats are marginal watercraft, indeed. But this tragedy was caused mostly by arrogant human error, greed, denial, and lack of proper precaution. First, they should have cancelled the duck boat rides because of the weather (but that would cost them money). Second, since they did go out, they should have had everyone put on life jackets (but that would scare people and make the operators look bad). I expect that this duck boat company will go bankrupt from lawsuits, and should be charged with gross negligence. Their little business venture is over. I am praying that they truly learn from their fatal errors, and I pray for the innocent victims and their families.

It's tragic to even think of losing a family. I hope the survivors find
comfort and manage to go on with their lives. I believe those who were lost would want the others to be okay eventually.
