One never knows with wild ones, even pet wild ones who are only half wild. I'm glad you made it safely home. This post has reminded me of Major, a dog. I wonder if you'd mind if one day I told the story of our first meeting?

My first thought was that he was being protective, but at the end there, with the rushing bit, it didn't sound that way. This sounds like an example of why wolves and even wolf hybrids are not always good pets.
