There used to be a distillery about a mile from our farm.

There used to be a distillery about a mile from our farm.  In the Bourbon industry, you can only use a barrel one time.  So local farmers, my Dad included, would show up when they started the bottling process and buy the empty Barrels for a buck a piece.

I don't know what the other farmers did.  But my Dad would put 5 gallons of boling hot water in the Barrel, plug it, and make me roll the barrels around our yard.  I would invite  friends over and make up a barrel rolling game out of it......

After a couple of hours, my friends would go home and my Dad would unplug the barrels and get 5 gallons of bourbon that was soaked into the wood of the barrels.

Then he would cut the barrels in half and sell them as huge flower pots for $3.00 each.

Ahhh the free enterprise system in full swing!

As far as I know I've never had any bourbon nor any carp.  Sounds like maybe Carey Nation went to work in your end of town.
