I am trying to think what m first job was, well my first real job at 14 was to help my father. We traveled to villages with a load of paraffin and a variety of goods all vogue at the time. It was a cold job in winter but worse on wet days as coats just got soaked until we could hardly stagger around and then had to change to the next one .I think I had four. My Dad caught pneumonia for three years running.

Good one......My first job was at a neighbor's farm in the winter "stripping" tobacco. (you pull the leaves off the stalk and bind them together in a bundle) Two weeks of 6-8 hr days standing up stripping the leaves.....It was hard work for a 14-year-old.  I was excited, I was earning money to pay for all of my Christmas presents.....We finished on a Saturday and the farmer told us to come back Monday Morning......

There was 4 of us....Monday morning, we all got there at the same time and the farmer had moved, he took the tobacco straight to market, sold it and was gone......

Sounds like you had quite a time of it babysitting. What an experience! My mom didn't allow us to babysit. But we did have to work at our "chores."
