Pat - Add me to the list of cleanliness seekers...

I won't take samples at Costco; I cringe at buffets; couldn't stand any pot luck at work; and in general don't want anyone touching my food or dripping half-chewed crumbs into it in a communal setting. I hate to see cutlery placed directly onto a table in a restaurant (They never really clean the tabletops.) I get ill too easily from foodborne contaminants. Yuck!

I am afraid we are really particular examining the original history of the food.

I'll not mention places but commonsense might prevail. Something like a strawberry field 40 workers and one loo down the bottom of a field.

You have me thinking about the different food I have come across.

I'm really paranoid with my food, careful where I eat out, etc.  But you never know.  In a really nice restaraunt that I like a lot, I once saw a mouse scurry across the floor while we were eating.

Was a time when kids were taught, if you touch it, you take it. As if it isn't an obvious point of consideration for others.

Re: Is that a sickness?

No. It's avoiding sickness. And it's also good manners.

That drive's me Crazy.....

I am still a part of Joe Love's family....and for every meal the food is placed out on the counter top...Joe's sisters and their college age children perform what they call "Grazing".  They stand over the food and use the tostedas chips to dip in everything!  And they don't step back while munchin.......I cringe with every bite.....

Finally, I'll say "where're the plates it's time to load up."

I'm glad to know others feel the same way.  If someone does that in a restaurant,  I can't keep my mouth shut.......I love Chinese restaurants...but you see everybody touching stuff....so I get there when they open, so I can rush through and get as much untouched food as possible!

Is that a sickness?
