We were driving west of Colorado Springs toward Ute Pass one year when it began hailing so hard we had to pull over.  It kept it up ever so long and when it finally stopped, the ground was covered several inches deep.

Re: CCT,

I have not seen much of the doves lately, apart from one or two grazing in the yard--no grass to speak of, but it's where I toss the leftovers and hulls from the parakeets' dish. We only had a dash of hail here last night, so they were probably all right in their tree, well enough protected.  I imagine the trees and gardens southwards got a heck of a beating, though.

Re: adnohr,

This area has pretty wonderful thunderstorms through the summer, and last year seems to me, they started this early, too. There were rumbles this afternoon, as well, and a huge dark grey-blue cloud mass just to the north. We have covered the windshields with rubber mats and tarps just in case, for tonight.

Re: Pat,

I always hope that, too, especially when I see that vertical lightning that is aiming at the trees!

I hope the rain fell on some of those tinder dry and burning areas.
