Re: Plus, which, if you think about it, 1776 wasn't exactly a party scene.

When looking further into this I discovered that this news source left out one slight piece of information.......

Despite the utter ridiculousness, the Cherry Hill High School East principal actually apologized because tickets for its senior prom -- to be held at the National Constitution Center -- contained the phrase "Party Like It's 1776." In addition, students will be issued new commemorative tickets without the offending phrase. (ergo the connection)

Those who sincerely want to end discrimination in our schools should pick their battles. "Party Like It's 1776" shouldn't even count as a skirmish. Can't we all get along and enjoy the prom?

Changes the direction completely.....

Plus, which, if you think about it, 1776 wasn't exactly a party scene.

No flush toilets, no electric lights, no power tools or supermarkets, no ice cream. That didn't come along until the worlds' fair of 1904 - St. Louis. I lived in a primitive situation - slightly improved over the 1776 version. There was no way it was a party in any sense of the word - never mind the divisive issues of war, poverty, race...

You have a good point, people can find something wrong with anything if they have the mind to do so. And, for anyone who knows his/her 1776 US history, it wasn't politically so great, or so safe, to be a Colonist at that time either, even a white Colonist.
