Re: C_C_T
It's all so true, but some ancestors went to England, Australia and South America also. It must have really been rough where they lived.

Well RP folk have always moved to obtain a better life. I suppose America held the most promise. Two of my Great Aunts`one to Canada and one to USA. Great Uncle to Australia. Also folk were quIte poor in England I remember an old man telLing me he ate his dinner going to work and then searched the fields for a swede to nibble.Sadly the trouble was I think the poor woman had too many children and the current wage was not up to keeping them all. There was a gypsy ecampment five minutes walk away from us we were regarded as prosperous because we had running tap water.and a bungalow built for £200 . It would not buy a washing machine today.

Re: TAPS
Thank you, dear TAPS. "...by way of The Lady..." Well said. Then you know life wasn't as glossy as some purport it to be. I hadn't heard that term, "Bohunk," until a few years ago. Again, no emojis working on this computer.

Love it. My grandparents came to Missouri by way of a visit to "The Lady". They came to a Czech community at the outskirts of town. Grandpa Jelinek worked in the coal mine there. He hated it when the town folks called the Czech people "Bohunks".
