Fear Over Love
Why would one choose fear over love? Fear is a strong emotion. It's what despots use over their subjects and for a time will do what's expected of them. But eventually, fear will melt away to anger and frustration to remove the source of fear, namely the despot. However, this is not so easy when fear is internal. It stifles creativity. But in both circumstances, fear can be replaced by love, if love is toward oneself or toward others.
