I leave dusting to my cleaning lady. She's coming again next week. It's dusty!

Pat, great post!
One needed strong fingers to push the keys down on those Remingtons, even the portables. To lug one to the park and type there is amazing. It shows your determination. And no, you didn't let your mother down. You were the child, even if out of school. The Remington is a symbol of how far you've come, and how far there still is that one can travel.

When I married, I left my portable Remington for my mother to use. She got more good out of it than I ever did. I only wish that she could have been a member of Blogit. She would have adored it. You wouldn't believe all the things she did with it, but poetry was her favorite.

I would only be surprised if I found myself dusting.

Better to think of the nice things Pat. My aunt bought a typewriter applied for a job.
She was very optimistic she could hardly type.

That is really neat about the typewriter. I have not seen a typewriter in such a long time. It is amazing how they were replaced during our lifetimes...THere is a lot of symbolism behind it for you, I see.
