I have problems with the big wood bees...they drill holes in your deck, lay their eggs, and the larva eats the lumber worse than termites.

I enjoyed, waiting for the library to open this morning adult honey bees, gathering pollen from the new white weeping Japanese maple up front. The old one failed to bloom last year.

Well I hang smallish bags of straw in the fruit trees it does deter wasps as they do not like to be too near to another colony. I know it is not possible for you to do so, so better to kill one queen than have to exterminate a whole swarm.

Wasps do bring with them a lot of excitement. Thankfully, I have not come across too many of them.

They are a pest. But I enjoyed your post and the quote at the bottom. How true! Hope you are feeling better.

Charlie taught me a thing about wasps, we have so many in the summer time! They swarm around the roof shakes, mostly yellow jackets.
If you wallop one, it releases pheromones that attract his friends and relations.
The alternative is a spray bottle with soapy water. This breaks down the surface tension that protects it from rain, so the water in the spray quickly sends it on to insect heaven or its next incarnation.
