It's not just Islamists...
If Islamic factions were the only culture / religion that practiced extreme misogyny, it would be easier to assign blame, but it is by no means singular. I can't accept the idea a supreme being, a creator god - no matter what cult or faith - would condone mistreatment of the female sex, which is the only conduit for new life. For men to act in ways other than as protectors of women seems a threat to the survival of the species.
