A lot of people with power outages are cursing their wells right now...You do a great job conveying the emotions being felt.

Re: Pat
Yes one rarely saw a white coalman My uncle used to strip down in front of the fire and wash, the Great Aunt held a towel up in front, it was her special brand of privacy. I don't totally write off other beings even if we have lost the ability to see them.

Re: overthe rainbow
I suppose most houses that had wells were lucky. We had one but I filled it in as it seemed to fascinate children, I suppose they hardly knew what it was. One has to live and let live I think the fairies are a bit too delicate for our environment..

A toad wouldn't mind it if she dumped water on his head. A fairy might sir.

i can just see he little boy who couldnt wait to see the toad, inching closer and closer, perhaps closer than he was allowed and keeping it a secret.
ashamed about the faries, we humans, especially the wild and wooley ones, seem to run everything off.

So interesting about the water well and the toad and the g-aunt. I enjoyed reading. And the fairies and their thoughts are a delight.

A well in the coal yard, I can just imagine the water was hard...
Of course a 'yard' isn't the same as a mine, but dust gets whipped up by the wind and drifts... I suppose water from anywhere is filled with such. Loved the philosophy in the fairy poem, the way of newcomers with their own wisdom coming into a provincial neighborhood...
