ceil , loved this post, lots to think about. China is leading the world now in solar power, and maybe they could teach us a thing or two about getting rid of useless government officials.

On one hand, trade is the key to civilization, when diverse peoples trade to mutual benefit. But then there has always been someone to weaponize everything, turning it into a means of domination.

I've always wondered why we were never exposed to the rest of the world's history in school, but in the current education system, it is a wonder kids even learn American history, I suppose.

There were centuries where even that wasn't an option. The only way was to be able to study for the examinations that could lead to positions in the government bureacracy.

It doesn't leave much room for personal growth or change. One can change their location from peasant farming to factory worker living in a city thousands of miles from one's village family and ancestors but it seems that it is only a change of geography really.
