Re: Re: Re: Re: Aba Brother

The syllogistic argument leads us to conclude that for the entire of our lifespan we are not capable of knowing who we are in reality. To answer your 'then what are we?' ... we are only automatons or, at best, robots, divorced from life itself, nothing more Lol!

Re: Re: Re: Aba Brother

That's a beautiful way of putting it, 'in the end, we only know what we do not know all there is to know'. In order to really know something or to know something in real, the first precondition is that there has to be a distance between the object and the subject, and knowledge is the bridge between the two, the ... to be known ... and the knower. Let us take it this way, I am a part of the whole and I want to know the whole. Now it becomes a dilemma as to how a part can know the whole, because he is not separate from the whole. So the distance is not created. A fish in the sea is a part of the sea, surrounded on all sides, up down and centre, it's whole life draws sustenance from the sea, and one day this philosopher fish wants to know the sea, it travels thousands of miles up and down and centre and border of the sea, but all it finds is water, water, everywhere. It bacame famished and haggard and frustrated, so the fish concludes it's all lies what the elders teach, the sea is nowhere to be found. That is the real difficulty, how can you know if you are separate? In order to know the real, one's entire study has to be focussed within; it must of necessity, have to be a subjective study ... the mind studying mind, subject studying subject. This is the whole focus, the object of all mortification in the process of purifying the mind, I see things not in their reality but what my mind projects them to be. I cannot see a thing as white when I am wearing green googles, the white appears to me as green. So when there are no superimpositions or projections of my mind, only then can I see things in their reality. But then, the penances to be observed are so daunting outwardly that one is never motivated or have the strong will to give it a try. In the end therefore, all we know is what we don't know. I know what is to be known, but I never can know what I want to. This is how mankind remains ignorant all his life. I hope I haven't been too dense. Thank you big sis, these are the issues I love when I become fountainhead-like.

Re: Re: Re: Aba Brother

In other words, are we capable of real feelings? Because if not, what are we? LOL!

Re: Re: Aba Brother

Just one quick comment for now, I think. If we are only feel like we are making choices, is that because we do truly feel what we feel, or are we being made to feel what we feel, much like a writer would do in describing the feelings of a character? Free will, grand designs, intuition, intellect, instinct - humanity may ponder these topics, but perhaps, in the end, we only know that we do not know all there is to know.

These things have been pondered, questioned, argued over the centuries and will be as long as there is life.  Interesting to read.

Re: Oh Kabu,

I was floored and immensely happy at your kind invitation for me to come and stay with you in Canada and just keep on talking and talking on various topics. There was one such invitation also from Canada from Troosha who said how nice it would be if i could listen to you days on end doing nothing. Thank you kind lady

Re: C C T

Yes sir, one can debate on anything which, for me, provides richness and dimension and perspective. Many thanks.

I feel like basking in glory at your warm words of appreciation. I just get excited when queries are raised. It activates my brain cells and helps me learn more about a topic of discussion. Please do comment when you're at leisure, dear sis

I love your work. You give my life, my mind something to mull over when you post. This really grabbed me for I have always been excited about free will as opposed to determined bu my God. I look at a flower mathematically perfect but circumstances can ruin it. A wind, a hail storm, crushed by a foot, random disasters.

I was so interested in characters taking over from the author. That happens, or used to happen to me. I have written a poem and at the end of it read the whole and said to myself, "Now where did that come from!"

I have unfinished manuscripts where a character walked away or tried to take over my story. Come stay with us some time and see Canada, and explain things to me.

Quite interesting , I suppose one could make a debate about almost anything. You always

 provide a reasonable answer.

It seems there is confusion here, a confusion of words and meanings.  The word "story" is being interpreted in different ways.  We need more differentiation in the use of the word.

Indeed, everything has a "story",  as a description of its development or progression,  whether it is a fictional life or a real life.  We are all living our own "story" of our lives, in physical reality......  and we can also create a fictional "story" as in a book or a movie, which can be quite compelling, but it remains fiction.  These fictional "stories" are akin to computer games.  They create their own artificial world, they create characters and rules of play, that can seem to take on a life of their own.  The rudimentary form of this is the ancient game of chess (banned by Mohammed, by the way),  which totally engrosses the players in its game pieces,  their ways of movement,  and the progression of the game, as game pieces are defeated and removed from the board.  Every chess game has a "story", but we would be foolish to mistake this as equivalent to a conflict between real people.  It is just a game.

I don't think God is playing games with us, on a giant chess board.  We have the free will to move in any direction, as no chess queen or king can move.  We can play in 3D, so to speak, jumping up from one square, jumping over our enemies, to land in a square behind them,  to surprise them and destroy them, as happens in real warfare. I think your colleague is somewhat confused about free will, trying to suggest pre-destination,  and I am glad you were able to help her reconsider.
