I have my doubts that they would. From what I gather, that tree is in severely rough shape. I feel that putting a seedling from that tree is a good compromise.

I always hate to see an old tree go, but sooner or later they always do. I'd hate to be the one to have to decide what to do because one can never make everyone happy.
