These storage facilities have very strict rules against anyone living in the units, though some do it anyway, for a while, until they get caught and ejected.
I think it would be a great idea, though, for an organization or even a municipality to turn a facility like these into safe homes--insulated, with communal kitchen and showers on the premises. Like a hostel.

I have a garage out back, not convenient due to the fence and gate
for parking the car, so I use it as storage space. All I need to do is decide which clutter to organize and store out there - things that can deal with outside temps. And getting up the gumption to do the actual boxing and carrying....

I think one probably is always glad of a bit more space, handy for a homeless person as well
