Well I think RP sums it up without any need for me to put my ha'pence in the kitty.

I will say I think most things are in the eye of the beholder. Probably also if enough believe in something even if it is trash, trash will prevail.

Most excellently stated, imho, dear Aba. The topic is subjective. One may see a written piece as pure poetry, one may view music or painting as pure poetry, while another may view any piece as drivel, when it fact, it may be both, or neither. What is art to one person, may be unworthy for the trash heap to another. One must have an idea of something at some level in order to be cognizant of feelings which spring from that idea, or one must have feelings strong enough to form an idea to express. Whatever the manner, the end result, should be pure art, if not tainted with artiface.
