Re: Pat

RPresta, I may have misremembered the exact location - it may not have been Marin County - but Southern California is clear in my mind. Funny how we can see someone else's issue but can't figure out our own.... Thanks for the comment.

Pat

Interesting, the lady speaks of SoCal but Marin County is in northern CalI. She may call again and again. I hope you can help her. Of course, you've figured out the problem.

depression in the elderly is a terrible affliction and much easier to fall into than to climb up out of. Even reaching out like this lady comes across as being a pain in the butt. You are kind, caring, and i feel sure will find someway to help this person to find a niche in a new area.

I feel that you have figured out what her problem is, the feeling that her life lacks purpose. I have felt that a time or to in my life. Thankfully, no longer.

Well Pat I think, well I know for a fact someone who used to worry continuously  over the lack of cash. Now this person has not got that worry other problems have arisen.

Not only are those none of those cultural things about her, at least in the facility she lives in, there are no other people used to participating in that kind of thing, no one to talk to who relates to the things she does. My mom who was something of a cultural/educational snob, felt that way in the retirement community she and my dad lived in. Similarly, the food in the dining room was kind of appalling to her gourmet palate.

If she isn't into writing, maybe there needs to be some other kind of gathering around ideas, arts, etc for people like her. A lecture series, bringing in knowledgeable experts, maybe with a lunch afterwards with the expert?
