I think that he has made up the whole thing to prove that he is an honest true bkue American and maybe he feels he needs to do that.

Well I expect you will eventually get the lowdown. I would dismiss the lady who cannot write. I think that is a fair start.

In reading Colleen McCullough's several volumes of historical novels of the last hundred years of the Roman Republic, it was pretty clear that the origins of the Mafia are in the basic outline of Roman society: it's system of patrons and clients, its attitude of "rules are for those without the power to make or ignore them." The making of law was as venal and self-serving as anything we see today in our own government. The use of terror to collect and keep power has always been part of the human scene.
Abdel has made a connection that distorted religious dogma has been used to glue terror organizations together and that makes sense especially when you add in the American white supremacy movements--and I do use that term with some reference to movements of a more physical and personal nature.
I do wonder if he is telling a true story or making himself the hero of an imagined scenario.

They're definitely on college campuses... my niece has encountered many religious groups trying to coerce kids who are away from home and possibly sad or needy into their "tribes." I imagine they could find the same need in a senior center. It's sad but they prey on the vulnerable.
