A wonderfully picturesque poem so smoothly conveyed in words. Kudos!

Re: CCT

Thank you, no pain involved. Just thoughts as I had mentioned in my other comments. The smoke from the fires was something to see. It's a sad thing for those who have lost everything.

Re: TAPS

Thank you, dear TAPS. Yes, it's how I was brought up. I can't help but be who I am; my parents' daughter.

Re: Re: Re: Kabu

Oh, dear Kabu, how can that be, but I'll take it. LOL. It sure makes me happy to hear that. I think there is an inherent freedom that comes with knowing that you are in a different and better place now, and I'm glad that is so.

Re: Nautikos

Yes, as contradictory as that sounds. Thank you.

Re: Kabu

Oh, so sad... I think no one escapes life without feeling like that at one time or another. If so, they aren't living a reality-based life. This, besides being seeded from watching a tv show on gold-smelting, came to mind when I thought of so many people I know who seem to have lost that which they love the most! My dad lost his sight; he loved to read - things like that. I apologize for the appearance of darkness. I was reflecting on the life lessons we experience. Yes, we go on and the Light comes back. And also the music...

There was a time when I sat on the edge of my own hand dug black hole and wondered if i would ever feel complete again. That time passed, I destroyed the black poetry that I wrote.

Re: C_C_T

Actually, I had seen a show on gold smelting when the thought of this poem entered my mind.

I thought when the news broke of the Napa Valley wine country. It turned out the next morning that I was right.  It's a shame.

I guess you did not feel too happy when you wrote this poem. It rather nice that you are able to present it without too much pain. A good job there is not fog as well as that terrible catastrophe. Once the farmers burned the straw stubble here it was horrible for anyone near. Nothing like your fires of course but smoke smudges were apparent. Good poetry when it strikes true.

A poem that most, if not all, can relate to.

Re: shelly_b

Yes, thank you. So far, so good here, as long as there are no more fires. In Northern Cali I know of a couple who lost everything. Also, I have cousins there whom I think are okay now. My brother lost most of his home in '03, wildfires and then mud-flow floods in the winter. It was horrid.

Hope you are safe?  I have a friend who lives close to the fires.  She has been taking photos.  Her brother lost everything!  So sad.

Stay safe!
