I wonder what became of Hulda. I myself have never seen a wild turkey in person.

wild turkeys really do make a lot of noise.  I saw a bunch of them by the highway last year... they were obviously lost.

TAPS

Great photo - looks like a Hulda to me! Ben and I met a whole gang of them after driving back slowly from a walk by the Lake. All the windows were open, and I think he got their scent even before I saw them. I stopped and took some pics, and Bennie really, really wanted to get out of car...

Lovely photo I suppose once all turkeys looked like that. I envy your son who has maintained a section of the wilderness, yes it is good to grow old gracefully, but one can't win them all.

Happy Autumn to you. It's always a treat to have a wild creature accept us as part of their world. I hope Hudka is in a safe place.

I remember her and was sad to see her leave. Actually yes does look like she had been a young he and let's believe that he herded a harem of several females and his prodigy lives on in the back woods somewhere.

Sounds like you are wistfully thinking of Hulda...

I sometimes think of Madame LaDarque, the black squirrel who visited me regularly for a year and a half

It's mystical to me when something wild makes deliberate

contact. Makes me realize the underlying connectedness. I hope Hulda has found another place in the deep woods where there is plenty to eat and a nest that's warm and dry.
