Naut
I did not know about the Carrington Event. Thanks a lot, you just gave me another "end of the world" scenario to worry about, LOL. Add that to a killer asteroid, or a nuclear EMP (electro-magnetic pulse) inflicted upon us by our enemies, to wipe out all our electronics and send us back into the Stone Age.
As a more pleasant aside, there is a TV show going on now, on the Science channel on, called BattleBots. People build "robots", little juggernauts on wheels, and engage in battle. The metal carnage is amazing. It is on Wednesday nights, so that would be tonight!! I am watching every episode, or recording it when I can't watch. You should tune in. My favorite bot is Bronco (a flipper) or Icewave (a spinner). Icewave looks like a lawnmower on steroids, with a blade spinning at 300 MPH. It destroys everything it touches, but it has a weakness that no other bot has exploited yet.
Oh, and the eclipse? If I watch it at all, it will be on TV too, LOL. Cheers

You can't imagine how Ribcage is looking forward to this. He talks about it every day. St. Joseph, MO about 50 miles from here is where one goes for the perfect showing. They have been sold out for months on places to stay and places to dine, etc. On the other hand, P.D. just goes on about his daily duties like nothing special is expected.

This post is fabulously fun reading. I am intrigued by the concept of the tips of the solar flares becoming so much hotter as they leave the core/photosphere. Actually, the entire post is intriguing. Thank you. We won't get to view it so well here, but media coverage will help out with that.

On St. Louis TV, all we hear about is the eclipse. Hotels are booked,
schools (which open on the 15th here) will close on the 21st so kids can view the eclipse, the college is opening its stadium for people to take advantage of the great open sky. Home-owners are offering rooms for up to $600 on the rental sites. I doubt we'll be around for the next one in 600 years or so, so this is our chance.

I am feeling super stoked about the upcoming solar eclipse. Now I got to find myself a pair of the proper "glasses" so that I can see it.
