great post and these days Wiley stands beside me when I talk to strangers ...translating for them. Aussie terms and if I get happy and forget I speak faster and my words are more difficult for some.

Fortnight and giving the baby an airing. They were both strange to US forces , but I have seen the terms donkey's years later. New words spread rapidly Pat. Mud in your eye. etc. Are you wearing that hat or walking beside it?

It is funny! And I bet you that student may have forgotten a few words of the language once he went back to Germany, but he would never forget that English lesson...
