When I met my husband, he was hitchiking and I picked him up. We parted and started writing to one another and got married 8 months later. We've been married for 36 years so far!

I was on a plane headed for Tampa, Florida with several other travel agents from my area. A young woman sat across from me. We started talking and stayed friends for years after that.

On the train, a time or two on a plane, I've had some in-depth

conversations with strangers. People who know nobody you know, who expect never to see you again, can be more truthful and frank than they might be with someone who might carry the story back to their group. Secret fears, snoggy little satisfactions about someone who's gotten a well-deserved comeuppance, etc., can be shared with ships that pass in the night.

We had interesting evening chatting with strangers in the hotel pool one evening long ago. We sat talking and they (two different sets of strangers) told stories of their lives. In my 20s, I was amazed, and to this day, I still am. No, never saw them again.

I've had some interesting talks with strangers, but I will have to ruminate on the rest of your suggestion.
