Re: blackcat

No please, I am trying to give up drinking wine, young people think they are immortal probably who cares if they cash out at 40. the trouble is it is here before one can swing a cat ,sorry just an ordinary cat.

Re: anibanerjee

Well I know it is tough, perhaps it is tolerated more in different areas. One has to think of the consequences, my Father died at 56 he was a heavy smoker. Be lucky.

Re:RPresta

Yes as a lady said to me everyone smoked, it just seemed natural. I never liked seeing folk with snuff around the nose .

Yes well, I expect they emptied it with a bucket, I bet you kept a low profile. I always liked your Dad, I kind of feel he was special.

Re: My mom smoked and I've lived much of my life around smokers.

Of course no one knew about health problems Pat. Probably it was not so relevant in the days when people checked out at 70. Yes most work was done by friendly neighbors, one would not dare ask today.

I don't understand why young people still smoke but I'm all for a good drink... :)

I never thought you'd be writing about some like me. I am wanting to quit but probably not really wanting too. Good poem there.

That poem has so much info in it, and fun, and a very nice cadence for reading out loud.

People smoked a lot then. Great poem! Reminded me of when I was a kid.  Repairmen weren't usually called; some relative would be solicited to help out.

Nice poem

Is it autobiographic?

Just got curious.

Dad and the workmen put in a complete septic system in the workman's cottage. They called themselves Poopery and Sons. dad was pretty smart on the farm, he could fix almost everything but back then one had to. Couldn't afford new, he had little girls to spoil anyway. Great memories CCT

My mom smoked and I've lived much of my life around smokers.

Never liked it, don't understand why anyone would take up the habit in light of all the news about lung cancer and heart disease that's out there all the time.

The old poem reminds me of the old days - home-grown handymen and do it yourself make-do solutions. Quite a luxury to be able to hire it done.
