A shame you can't post us a photo of the castle. I bet it is awesome. I spent over 3 years in Germany while in the Army, but right now I cannot remember if I ever passed thru Hamburg. I will have to look it up on a map. Cheers

Hamburg has a very deep history. I was unaware of the cholera outbreak they had. The security is a big reminder of the times we live in.

We don't have that (yet) in the Kansas City airport. Hopefully it will never be needed.

German efficiency...can't beat it and yes the gentle style of flying is gone probably forever. It is just an endurance as far as I am concerned. Spent a day in Frankfurt airport waiting for a 'plane one time. No I was verbitten to go outside. Sigh!

Well, the airport sounds efficient. So, did you know L and J previously? Okay, it's none of my business... Seems like they whisked you outta there, but then, why linger? LOL!

My son was stationed in Germany about 20 years ago, loved the
people, and really loved the food. He wasn't at Hamburg, some place called Darnstadt I think. When he wrote home he talked about the pastries and breads (he was in his 20s then, late '50s now). Your accounts of the place make me want to visit...
