I'm not perfect but darn it would be nice for someone to help out other than holidays for a few hours or an occasional week when I never know if she will stay the whole week or not...

ask them? oh please kabu...my brother burned my mom for over 100k! my younger sis who was caring for her told the hospital she just couldn't do it anymore and just let her go to nursing home cuz she wasn't picking her up...no one cares as long as it isn't them...
gov't wont pay family to take care of family...ridiculous I know but that's the laws here...

Is there no care givers pension for you? It has to be cheaper to pay you to take care of your dear Mother than for the Gov. to pay for her to go into care.
Have you asked the rest of the family to kick in a bit each month so that you can afford to stay with her and take care.

Everyone's comments were so good. To me, the problem with your son is what you sound most concerned about addressing, because then he could be counted on to help you. It is very tough, what you are going through.

Just going through some rough times....too much crap to take care of....not much help from my son and lots of aggravation...though when he actually pulls his weight it helps me a lot...
none of my sisters help...no one ever asks me do you need help with mom? you need money to take care of mom? what can I do to help you?
this has been going on for 2.5 years...
it's hard to get a job since i never know what is going to happen next...and even more so with mhy health issues

I adored my Gram the only grandparent that I ever knew but she went through a stage of being horrible to my Aunt who lived with her and eventually became her care giver. She kept a nasty little diary on dear Flossy with all the times my Aunt went out and left her to meet her gril friends for lunch etc. She made life difficult but guess who is my favorite Aunt though dead now herself for many years!ie people, even children notice.

don't forget to take care of yourself. It's like the analogy that you have to put the oxygen mask on yourself first, before helping others. Means... take a break when you can... erase them from your mind whether it's for minutes or an entire day, and don't feel guilty.
also, maybe when your parent is unappreciative, tell them so? ie. you're trying your best and their comments are hurtful. You can try to tune them out, but in my experience, that's impossible.
