oh I crave salty foods... it's my downfall... forget chocolate, just give me a bag of chips. I feel for you... fruit and veggies I guess? or can you add pepper to spice things up?

I can't stand the taste of salt on my food. Blech! My mom's doctor told her the same years ago. So what did she do? Cut out salt all together! Big mistake on her part. She was so ill. At one point she got so dizzy she had to walk with a cane for a while.

Re: Kabu
So do beets. Yes fresh ones that you cook yourself, and the beet greens have even more. I guess that is why I like them. But, what did me in and sent me back to the ER of high BP was our St. Patrick's Day meal of corned beef and sauerkraut. I've always fixed that for Sons on that day and didn't think. One small helping of boiled corn beef is 3,629 mg of sodium, and one small helping of sauerkraut is 1,500+ mg of sodium. Not only did I eat it then, for for a couple of days ate leftovers. Yikes!

Re: Kabu
Have you ever eaten Chinese stir fry without any added salt (no soy sauce or bottled chinese sauces)? That's what I'm supposed to eat for dinner, and it just isn't quite the same. I grew my own Mung bean sprouts and they still have sodium in them.

Love the stories from the past and isn't it interesting what we remember. My mom was told to cut down on salt when she was in her 60s...she didn't and lived till she was 94. I am someone who doesn't like the taste of salt...I'll likely not make it to that age. ;)

eeks plain celery that you buy raw has salt???? can't be true. I have cut down the salt intake for Wiley gradually so that he hasn't noticed how much less he is getting BUT everything we buy is filled with salt and /or sugar. The best for our BP has been to drink No pop at all No diet pop no energy drinks. Water only and we have a flilter to keep the salts from our well out of what we drink.

I do hope you win that salt battle. I love salt. It's horrid, the thought of oats three times a day... Be well, dear TAPS.

I wonder if fruit has any salt. Surely not bananas. I would have thought the natives could have made salt from the sea water. Do you think the old chap was going bananas and he meant sugar.
