I have 2

One for me and one for my hubby. I think the hubby one was a payback as he went out and got my NAME tattooed on the inside of his bicep. Blew my mind. It was huge. I felt a bit obligated to repay the gesture. I got a small one of his name where no one will be looking. The one for the kids was just one that I always wanted. When I was done having kids, I got one of all of their names together. It's on my back in a "least likely area to sag" lol. Pretty sure I am done.

Reading this made me think of an interview that professional wrestler Lanny Poffo did. He brought up how his daughter got a tatoo. He asked her why.

"Because I want to be different," she said.

"Like everyone else?" he replied.

Just a fad I think Taps a nurse showed me a kind of bead sown into her arm. I asked her why , She said because I am mad.

I wonder the same as you! I just don't get why anyone would want a tat! sam

It's the in thing....like bell bottoms and free love and love beads in the 60s...each generation has their own thing ...this new one is tats.

Well, my Granddaughter-in-Law answered my question to her.  Her answer was, "Because tattoos are awesome!"  To each his/her own.  I'll take pearls like Barbara Bush.

Re: pendorin

You know, I think you are right--just plain old trend.

posted by TAPS. on January 18, 2017 at 5:24 PM | link to this | reply

Like everything else copied it's a trend. And I say this b/c women would enter my store and only wanted to purchase items seen on others; I struggled to get them to simply buy b/c they themselves liked an item, but they won't do it for reason above no one else was wearing it!

i actually don't care what adults dress like or what they peirce or tattoo...I get angry when they do something to children though. Why? because I left the decision of circumcision to my Son's Dad and then they both blamed me.

No tatts. for me though. I like to change my jewellery.

I think it's a personal thing. If anyone is wondering, none on me.

I suspect a lot of us elders see tatoos as a thing of drunk sailors

and raunchy outlaw bikers, but since we lived in that world, they have become an expression of art, of self and identity, of many other things that are by no means sleazy or anti-social or simply the result of a wild night in a new port.

Re: Justi

My Dad was very firm that none of his six girls should ever get a tattoo, and I don't think we did, though I'm not real sure of my sister who died in 2001.

Re: Pat_B

I think if the skin is going to wrinkle & sag then the tattoo should too, or else it would be rather unusual to say the least.

posted by TAPS. on January 18, 2017 at 1:28 PM | link to this | reply

I am not a fan of pain, and I think having ink injected under the skin

would be like a hundred bee stings, so for that reason it's a no-go for me. It's a kind of art with the body as a canvas, but again, not my thing. I keep thinking how that taut young skin will look once the ink starts to sink into wrinkles and saggy bits.

TAPS

Beats me. Perhaps I am not firm on my decisions, but I would not want anything painted, inked, drawn or cut on my body that I could not change or erase. I don't understand them for female or male. I am not in judgment of either, just don't want one.

I had a cousin-in-law who showed me a tattoo of a tiny bumblebee on the upper part of her hip. It was so cute! I decided I wanted a Unicorn, and had one done on the upper part of my right breast - where it would hurt less to have done, being mostly fatty tissue in that area. It is tiny and in color and I love it!! It was running uphill - is now running straight across, and I expect will soon begin its downhill race, LOL! Why? Self-satisfaction, I guess - like coloring hair or piercing ears.
