'Sounds like we had here in once Sam roads were 6 inches covered with ice we had chains of course but it was hazardous avoiding those who did not.

I have never seen chains on tires during wintry weather. I have heard about people doing it. I was always under the impression that today's tires are as good as it's going to get when it comes to moving the snow. That is why we no longer have to switch to winter tires.

We have a very mild winter here and reading your post makes me shiver :)A cosy home is the best refuge in such weather conditions.

Although there is no snow up here (which I believe, I would have loved) in the desert land I live, but it is the freezing winds blowing with a roar and the dense fog that makes driving a real risk. But then, as Shelley says, 'O winds, if winter comes, can spring be far behind?'

Oh dear at least up here we are all organized for Winter but the bad news is we won't see Spring until the end of April.
