Yes most young people here would say it was gift. More and more are living back with parents they cannot afford to buy a home even though the rates are rock bottom. Once the interest rates go up if it is like it was a few years ago folk were locking the door and walking away it was too much to bear. Once there were Council houses but the land is so expensive that councils cannot afford the outlay and not being able to build on so called green land makes it even more difficult. I asked The mother of a twenty plus girl what was the cheapest deposit 70 grand. Of course it is cheaper up north but that's a different ball game.
