Mother told us that when he built the dam not very far from the house ...the one we relied on for watering the cows and the garden...Dad had thrown in a water man who would grab our leg and drown us if we went near. I must have been 12 when big sister told me to grow up...it was a ruse to keep us from that deep dam. Now of course she told a lie but maybe she also saved my life.

She probably needed this form of release. Not many folk are honest memory wise. You may be Pat, but you have a forgiving nature. Your mother lived in a hard time.

The boundary between 'lies' and 'myths' is a porous one at best...Is someone still a liar who, for all kinds of complicated psychological reasons, has possibly convinced herself of a falsehood?
