For goodness sake, sorry but dad behaved like a monster...slave labour and his own children. My two boys waited table for me on a Saturday mornings and I paid them a couple of dollars but they kept the tips. People thought them so cute they could make ten to 15 dollars between 9 and 12.

I don't think I was ever paid for work that I did until I left school about a dollar a week in those days. Children sometimes do things compulsively. Perhaps it is a survival instinct. It was a bit cruel your dad suggesting that method of punishment a bit dramatic in a way. Most fathers would have said or I'll tan your ass. That is what women have told me.
