Gargling with salt and warm water is what I do.

Re: Kabu, I will try that if it gets really going.

I've got supplies to drive off any chance of bronchitis to which I have been susceptible, starting with the loratadine (generic for Clairitan) and super-strength expectorant, if it starts getting into my chest. It has been successful previously at driving it away before intense coughing starts up. And albuterol, for when I start hearing that wheeze in my breathing.

Re: Pat,

I'd have to find something other than whiskey... tried it once, and it was not to my taste--to put it mildly.

gargle with salt water. But if I am really getting a cold nothing will stop it, only keep it more comfy.

Don't know if it fends off a cold, but a tablespoon of fine single-malt

Irish whiskey in a cup of hot lemonade makes one drowsy and soothes the throat.
