Sometimes
Sometimes it seems to me like people (especially younger) use phrases, they hardly know what they are saying.
Actually, a few days ago, a 10 year old boy said to me:
"Get a life."
Well, I know that's just something people say to each other, meant as "Come on, and just follow me on this topic", but what they actually SAY is something else.
And many other phrases are used the same way.
But I guess you still have a point.

I gave my record collection to Son #2 years ago because he is a musician and some of the music on them is handy for him. I miss the radio-gramme with its beautiful sound but it was a big piece of furniture and then, came cassettes and large speakers everywhere. Same son blew my speakers in his teens. I wasn't really surprised. Everything is so very different now.

Ahem! We say or I might say wind the window down , referring of course to when one actually did. I think rising in love would appear odd, but there is no accounting for taste.

had not though of that! i have a few 45s, even 78s, apart from the 331/3
A few are worth collecting. However, i always why in English it is "I'm falling ... in love" instead of "RISING IN LOVE." In Dutch-related versions,"Ik hou van jou/Ek is lief van jou," and Spanish, "Te quiero," closer to "I WANT U" or "I am love for U." No falling in these languages ... Why? On the other hand, "Eg elska pig!" is far from romantic-sounding, LOL
