I know people who are quite well off and who not only have no contempt for those in poverty through no fault of their own, but who actually give a lot...

Obviously some take advantage but I think we must blame the officials who just want an easy life.

Times were bad when a chap told me he was on the dole and he traveled 10 miles to apply for temporary help until he could find another job. 'How did you get here?' he was asked, 'On my old motor bike Sir' the claimant replied.'  'Well sell the motorcycle first and then reapply he was told.

It's not easy for any single mother.  I have met people on both sides of the coin.  Those who need the welfare because of circumstances beyond their control such as your mom and those who prefer to stay on welfare and do nothing.  Those on the latter side make it difficult for those on the first side who are truly doing what they can.

a story that needs to be told.

I am extremely thank ful to the wisdom of my God that I too spent time as a welfare Queen as you say. I elected to use the money to scrape through on with Sons and educate myself so that I could pay back what I had been given. It wasn't an easy life, and for me looking back the two worst things that happened

1 going to Church and being judged without anyone knowing anything about me as a lazy person happy to take welfare checks and not work and I must be after their husbands

2 being chased around by men thinking that any woman on her own must be aching for a man and were they ever the boy to help her with that problem.

I can give you lots of help with the story if you want.
