I cannot believe that it is almost November. October has not felt like October, that is for certain.

When I lived in Seattle I had an apartment on First Hill
for a year or so. First Hill is where several major hospitals live, and the accompanying therapist's and doctors offices - thus giving the area the nickname "pill hill." There were sirens 24-7 there, close by and it got to be part of the atmosphere. I've always loved the sound of train whistles in the distance, and miss hearing them.

we don't get noise out here except when the wolves call and in the morning when the birds start. The geese are noisy at present. I think they are gathering to go South.

Our quiet neighbourhood doesn't offer much in the way of nightly sounds, but I remember others - sirens, trains, and ships' horns in the fog...

Well I can't hear much at night Taps I suppose the trees deaden the sound or one has become used to the distant roar of traffic. Good night sleep tight mind the bugs don't bite. Someone said that to me times.

Your night time trains remind me of living by the tracks in Cleveland, a wide section of many many sets of tracks, and the romance of it all, listening to all the freight trains coupling in the night...

Such a soothing post, well, except for the sirens! Must be the heat; everyone out and about! There is a police blotter online here. One can look up the calls, if one is so inclined. Today there was much bombing from the base several miles away. At least I hope it was from the base! How routinely and calmly we say, "Oh, they're bombing again today..." Bombing is worse than sirens, perhaps.
