Yes the reason I try to avoid too many invitations, as if I get any, is because one has to respond similarly and frankly I don't like eating just to show one is enjoying the process.

I like your honesty, LOL!

This says what many (myself included) think about having company, especially extended visits..

Yes.  Doing less and less all the time.  Actually, I usually beg out from going to visit other people too, for the most part.

lOL, you really make me so glad that we just don't get hardly any visitors. I used to love to entertain. Elegant table setting, gourmet food I had spent hour over. House spotless, little boys scrubbed shiny.

Nice to look back on! nice to think, been there done that.
