He had an incredible life, proof that it is about what is inside that should count the most. I cannot imagine all that he went through.

I wish more would look at people from the inside.

It's been years since I saw the movie, but it was deeply moving and

brought out all those questions and observations you put into your post. It's good to have a chance to think about all the human failures we share in a venue like the theater instead of face to face with the real shocks a person who is different must endure.

Yes I remember seeing the film, I suppose one did not need to have a huge facial deformity to be ostracized in those days. If one had a tail it could be hidden;well you know what I mean.

Great post.  You did it so well.  I saw the movie a long time ago and was fascinated how a "normal" actor could so well play the part and make a person really think.

It is fascinating. Perhaps everyone needs to do a few years of nursing. It doesn't take long to see what is inside the package when you are a nurse, a real nurse who takes the work not as a job but as a life commitment. We were taught in University that the old idea of selflessness was gone but truth is, if one is going to be their patients advocate you have to be really committed.

Fascinating. Wonder how we would have reacted in those days and times?
