'Twenty-some years earlier' she had an affair with that woman's husband and is writing, asking for 'forgiveness'? One really wonders what brought on this act of viciousness...But I do not think all men who have an extra-marital affair are necessarily 'scum', nor the women 'trollops'...

Your post broke my heart. There really doesn't seem to be any easy closer to this. The other woman is a trollop as Mother would have said. And she may be dying and wanting to "go" with forgiveness for herself all round. Self centered to the end. He is a scum bag and one wonders how many women there were. Yes puting him in a home means in a way he wins. And of course he's had a stroke and has all the sympathy.

I suppose if one uses the term does she still love him. It would make life simpler if she could decide .
