I myself use cash for purchases, so a phone, or even a credit/debit, card is not for me. It will be interesting to see how widely accepted mobile payment becomes.
Like you, I think it would have worked better had it been done as a demo.

It's really interesting to read your observations of how the people react to you! Personally, I would have a concern about hacking, but that's just me. Apps like that are probably the way of the future, anyway. And you are right, they should have had you demo it differently.

well in most cases the provider will shut your phone down and it is protected by a pass code

I would worry what happens if I lost the phone or it was stolen. We don't have expensive phones , just the landline and a dinosaur in the car in case we need to call someone in an emergency.
