This brought back memories. No, not of courting and making cakes (LOL), but of my Aunt Rosie, who made a fantastic boiled icing for cakes. My mom made the simple kind with powdered sugar, butter, milk and vanilla. Both kinds are fine with me.

I know of one young man who happened to mention that he liked chocolate cake. there were 5 sisters in the family and each one would take turn to cook for Sunday night when young men came a calling. They each made a chocolate cake for this guy. When he married the sister he was courting he begged her never to make chocolate cake again. he was so tired of it.
