TAPS

Such a great post! Wish I had learned it much earlier. My eyes also tell the story of my mood. Saw a film once where they were training CIA folks. I'll never forget one line from it: "Smile, it relaxes people." With the exception of the effect politicians leave upon us, that may be partially true. At least it is good for the 'smiler.'  LOL!

There was a political activist named Phyllis Schlafly from this neck of

the woods who was one of the GOP's primary campaigners against the Equal Rights Amendment in 1980. She was all over the news, warning about unisex bathrooms and the possibility that women could be drafted and sent to war, etc., etc.  One of our college's philosophy professors, who'd written the book on Issues in Feminism, debated her on TV and our class attended the debate. Ms. Schlafly was the first person I ever saw who just smiled broadly when she was angry. It was scary to see.

doesn't matter how much I try to fake a smile, Wiley tells me my eyes flash the truth. Darn.

Re: Ciel

I do that too.  Whenever I have to look in the mirror, I smile at myself whether I want to or not.  It helps.

Re: Having said that

I read this after my comment to your last comment.  LOL

Re: Naut

But there is a difference, both of them are trying to impress you.  You would be doing the fake smile entirely for your own well being, not to impress them.

I smile, fake or not, when I confront my glum-face, my first-in-the-morning face in the mirror. Yes, that makes it all better!

Having said that

I realize what counts is the effect on the 'smiler', not that on the environment...

TAPS

I think it's a good idea - though I am not entirely convinced a 'fake' smile is a good thing...To stick with your examples - while I like neither Trump nor Hillary, I don't find his self-satisfied grin less annoying than her permanently pasted-on fake smile...
