Re:

mmmmmm i am reminded of The Godfather trilogy.  There was plenty of italian especially in the 2nd and 3rd.  I will have to ponder it and let my muse guide me.  Thanks for your feedback!

Re: Annicta

Thanks...I know it will turn off some writers but she will be leaving one country and going to another.  Embarking on a new life, culure and language!

Re:

mmmm I have read many books with foreign phrases that either put the meaning below or in either the front or back of the book to make it easy for the reader

You never know until you try!

It sounds like you have some good ideas.  Go with it.

It definitely would not turn me off, not even if it did not get translated.  It definitely would set the mood and would make me start googling things to find something out about it.

Hmm, I think it's easy to translate now so should be okay

The calling must be heeded, write on!

I would be fine with that. I write that as a person who reads paper books. I am not sure how it would look on an e-reader.

Just a couple of words or one very short sentence...otherwise poeple won't continue to read. The public wants to be entertained almost immediately but a line would grab attention.

Annicta

It wouldn't bother me a bit. When reading novels with a language I do not speak, such as the Gaelic, and in the chapter there are many phrases or words spoken in that language, I have found it helpful to have either a glossary at the back for all of the chapters, or asterisks with English translations either at the bottom of the page or the end of the chapter. Other times, when it is a smattering of a foreign language is present, it is helpful to have the word(s) italicised and the character seem to repeat it. For example, "Non oggi, not today." I have a very short fictional snippet already written where I have done that, which I may post later today, if you or anyone would like to see it. Happy writing.

Well most read the sample it probably would turn me off, if I didn't know you.
