When I just put a link to this post of mine in my comment to your post, way up here in 2019, I had forgotten that you already read this post and left an excellent comment already.  So please accept my apology for luring you here again.  However, it was interesting to re-read my post and your comment.  This post is entirely too long.  I might condense it down to a book report that does not chase too many tangents, and post it again to see if it fares better on the Blogit of 2019.  Cheers, my good friend!

I read it all with interest. Universe is indifferent to human fate. It should definitely be so. The word 'indifferent' is generally taken to mean that it does not do any good. But almost all accept that it is out to outdo when it comes to doing bad. Earthquakes, floods, plague, and what not. It depends on individual viewpoints. There are others who accept God as sitting up there in the heavens all that happens is the works of energy and all is to be accepted as good in neutrality. If we consider God as Supreme Cosmic Energy, then too a logic can be drawn - Energy is Energy; tamper with it, it'll shock or destroy; harness it, it works as your slave. it is thus easy to understand that the white bearded chap we call God sitting up there in the heavens be not personified, but seen as a Force that moves all that be (by non believers). The theist, the atheist already have a mindset; by that token the atheist is a theist because he believes in not believing. That is a kind of belief, too. The agnostic are the best , he says 'I don't know, I'll tell you when I find out', they are the real seekers and only they find God, or, Truth, if you so like.

Naut

If the universe is indifferent to human fate,  that is all the more reason for us humans to stand up and fight for Goodness and Freedom,  against predatory Evil and tyranny.....  regardless of what is going on in the mysterious cosmos.....

WOW! You certainly cover a lot of ground here, more than I could hope to addrss in a comment. As far as 'the book' is concerned - it's not on my 'must-read' list, though definitely on my 'must-avoid' one, LOL...

Let me just make one very general comment that may go to the heart of what you and I disagree on, keeping in mind that we do agree on many things - you see the Universe as the arena of a struggle between Good and Evil; I see the Universe as inherently indifferent to human fate...Having said that, Life and Consciousness are and will always be deeply mysterious...
