We can only lose this game for so long,  until it kills us.  But we are so screwed up,  we will think that we deseve it.

The rate of change is truly astounding. You have captured it well in your entries over the years.

What an interesting and haunting post.  Nothing in it surprises me, but it breaks my heart to see it in black and white.  I have always loved church buildings/worship services/gatherings and gathering places.  I totally believe Jesus teaching of "Where two or three are gathered together in My Name, there am I in the midst of them."

The Good Ole Days

But I am also someone who is in love with his culture, who has a deep affinity for it, who is familiar with many of its thinkers, adores its music, has stood in awe before its works of art and in a few of its sacred places, its ancient cathedrals; and who is also familiar with its deep tragedies. I have internalized much of that – cathected it, if you wish; it is part of me, and that is why this spectacle not merely stimulates my mind, it affects my soul…

You said it Naut. The rest's alarming.

I had no idea there were so many churches being converted to other uses. The historical value of these building is apparently not equal to the price of their sale.

I miss the cowboys in our culture. The independent spirit, the wide

open spaces, and hospitality always extended to those who are friendly. Maybe it's the pioneer spirit - gone now that the land is full of cities and the cities are full of people and the dystopic murkiness that overcrowding brings. The nightly news is nothing but criminals and politicians, but I repeat myself.

On a whole 'nother topic: Did you see the Genius program on Channel 9 (PBS) with Stephen Hawking that's been on from time to time lately? He talks about the big bang which is still going on and other scientific findings - physics brought down to the level where any interested soul can learn a thing or two...

It is the buildings that have interested me. The architecture, the period or age. I don't belong in a Church so I don't care who worships what there.

Well our main Church plays host to many different projects Naut. One of the reasons I suspect is the lack of attendance one cannot support an old monument with fewer and fewer believers.
