Probably gentle criticism is good and helpful but who wants to give it?

I have always found it difficult to tell writers things that needed improvement in their writing. So I just try to assess and improve my own.

I do think we writers as a whole are pretty sensitive. Will go back into our shell if the going gets too rough.

Many of us are sensitive; so sensitive that we personalize many remarks, both in general and the specific, and criticism can be overwhelming. I think the manner in which a "constructive" criticism is presented is helpful at times, but all in all, some of us are not comfortable dishing it out, or taking it, for that matter. There are those who tend to enjoy (seemingly) ripping people apart, or their work (not here at Blogitville), using the guise of it being constructive criticism to do so, while others gently guide and help. It is a very fine line and a difficult row to hoe, so to speak. You did right.
