People don't usually change.  They may be taking care of the BIL family for a long, long time.  I hope not.

Here is to hoping that things work out for the best. It will be interesting to see what all happens.

Re: Re: Just a word of caution as I saw this happen to a good friend

That is what is illegal, buying them from other people; it's called the street drug trade; prescription pain pills are most definitely out there being bought and sold in big and small amounts. And when people are actually addicted to prescription pills, the amount they can get legally get from a doctor is never enough; that is why so many pill addicts overdose and die. It is terribly dangerous in so many ways for everyone involved, including the family members who don't take them..If I were you, for the safety of my daughter and grandson, I would be doing some research on your state's drug laws concerning the abuse of presciption drugs and talking to my daughter and sil asap. And keep in mind what kind of people the addicted couple are interacting with, the people who are selling them the pills - usually they are out for as much money as they can shake out of the addicts; not nice folks at all. The laws in my state are pretty harsh and seem unfair for those who live with drug addicts but don't use drugs. The police and a judge told my friend that when you rent or are buying a home and your name is on the lease, etc. you are responsible for everything that goes on in that house, especially illegal activity. Not knowing in my state is not an excuse. After seeing what my friend went through and learning about the huge drug tragedy with pain pills in this country and the draconian laws all over the U.S., I try to let everyone with any involvement with people who are addicts know what they are dealing with.

Re: Just a word of caution as I saw this happen to a good friend

he is addicted to legal drugs and buys them off people that have them.  He has insufrance and could go to the docs and get the pills free

And now to add my two cents to Katray's... You mentioned 10 people looking at the house at once and no credit check, etc. Please, please be sure these people really own the house and are not pulling a common scam. It goes like this: The house is offered for rent to multiple people at a cheap rate. The "owners" rent it to each person without the others knowing that, taking a deposit from all of them. The "owner" takes off with all the deposits and is never found. Then everyone is out of a place to live, and their money, because the house was being foreclosed upon, or never was owned by that person in the first place. Happened to me long, long ago but it still goes on.

Just a word of caution as I saw this happen to a good friend

with a good heart only it involved her son and daughter-in-law who had drug addictions and a small child. When people are addicted, they do really, really stupid things, like break the law...And if you have such a person doing that in your household, not being aware of what is going on is no excuse in the eyes of the law. Not a safe, smart idea either to have drug dealers know where you live because if there is a debt, they can be ruthless, even deadly serious about collecting it.

Plus the law must remove children from homes and from all of the adults in the home when illegal drug activity is happening until every adult is tested. My friend was arrested at one point and nearly lost her home because of seizure laws and had to be repeatedly tested for drugs even though she was clean on the first one, before she could take her grandson to live with her. He was placed in foster care temporarily. And believe it or not, she gave her son another chance about a year later! He relapsed but his wife (now ex) stayed clean. However the whole family was harassed by people who said he owed them money or pills. They were lucky it wasn't a gang or cartel. Plus he stole from his own mother.

I didn't mean to write a book, but when people are addicted to pills or any kind of drugs, while they are still using they put everyone around them in incredible danger, including young kids. If your daughter cares anything at all about those kids, she should find help, either from her husband or other family members - in setting up an immediate intervention to get her bil and sil into a recovery place and hopefully, a decent home somewhere for their kids. Not an easy thing at all to do..But at least your family needs to steer clear of those deeply dangerous problems; sometimes people even turn addicted family members in to the police to get the kids out of the mess and to force the addict or addicts to get help - just my experience of seeing the nightmare my friend went though.

Daughter is too soft hearted. These family members and toads. they will always encroach on the good nature of family to help them. The garage would soon be the kids coming inside and before you know they have taken over the house and doing nothing again.Time for tough love beautiful daughter.
